Walford Park and Recreation Minutes

Regular Meeting                                                                                                Tuesday March 7th, 2023

Meeting called to order 7:07pm.  Davis, Miner, Lane.

Motion by Miner to approve February minutes, seconded by Lane.  Approved unanimous.

Baseball

Discussion included forecast of numbers for the all levels of teams.  Sign-up responses still coming in.  Discussion also included coaches, coaches meeting before the IVL league meeting (April 17).  IVL will finalize teams and rosters on April 17.  Parks Board will be looking for/recruiting someone to lease/operate the concession stand for the 2023 season.

Motion by Miner to approve up to $4000 for uniform/hat purchase for 2023 baseball season.  Seconded by Davis.  Approved unanimous.

Motion by Lane to approve up to $1000 for baseball supplies including balls, helmets, and field items.  Seconded by Davis.  Approved unanimous.

General Equipment/Grounds/Maintenance

Repair urgently needed to close the chain link backstop on the small diamond to prevent balls from leaving the field and entering the bleachers.

Citizen comments

Question regarding other Iowa Valley League town teams, Little League and Pony League regarding teams.

Paper that the baseball sign-up was printed on was very dark, suggest lighter paper color so can be more easily read and copied.

Suggestion offered to consider outdoor exercise equipment stations around the walking trail.

Update given on Fun Day schedule.

Motion to adjourn by Lane.  Seconded by Miner.  Meeting adjourned at 8:32 pm.
