Garbage and Recycling is picked up by Johnson County Refuse

Each resident will receive a 65-gallon cart to set out for once a week pickup.  No other cans will be accepted.

Extra Garbage: (any bag outside container)

For each extra garbage bag (no larger than 35 gallon) and a 40-pound weight limit, would need to be tagged with the new dark pink garbage sticker that is sold for $3.00 each.

  • Pick up is on Fridays

  • Have carts to curb by 6:00 A.M.

Recycling

Single Stream Recycling Cart Information

One container for all recycling materials, no separation is required and you are able to start using your new recycling cart NOW!!!  All recycling must be clean!!!  NO PLASTIC BAGS!!

And a friendly reminder:  WE DO NOT RECYCLE styrofoam, window glass, mirrors, electronic waste, motor oil containers, yard waste, chemical containers, plastic bags, ceramics or dishes, food waste, scrap metal, monitors, medical needles or waste, animal food bags, kitty litter bags.

Placement for curbside trash and recycling collection is incredibly easy, but it’s also incredibly important to ensure your trash and recycling services are handled properly.  

All carts need to be placed at curb by 6 am on Friday morning.

Place your recycling cart and trash cart at the curb with the wheels facing your house and the lid opening towards the street. Keep your carts 4 feet apart and 5 feet from any obstacles such as mailboxes, carts, lamp posts, power lines, etc.  The best place to make sure is clear of all obstacles is one on each side of driveway.

Johnson County Refuse Inc. will pick up your old recycling bins (empty) on March 13, 2019 for no charge and please have at curb by 6 am.

If you follow these guidelines, you shouldn’t have any problems with your collection. If there are issues, you can call Johnson County Refuse, Inc. at 319-665-4498 to report it. Our job is to provide you with the best collection possible, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!


 

Yard Waste

Yard Waste is picked up by Johnson County Refuse.

  • Mondays

  • Green Yard Cart

  • Have to curb by 6:00  A.M.

Extra yard waste needs to be in brown paper yard waste bag with $1.00 sticker. Stickers are available at BP & Clerk Office.

All yard waste shall be separated by the owner or occupant from all other solid waste accumulated on the premises and shall be composted on the premises. As used in this section, ―yard waste‖ means any debris such as grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, brush and trees. Yard waste does not include tree stumps. (Code of Iowa, 105.06)

Residential solid waste containers shall be stored upon the residential premises. Commercial solid waste containers shall be stored upon private property, unless the owner has been granted written permission from the City to use public property for such purposes. The storage site shall be well drained; fully accessible to collection equipment, public health personnel and fire inspection personnel. All owners of residential and commercial premises shall be responsible for proper storage of all garbage and yard waste to prevent materials from being blown or scattered around neighboring yards and streets. (Code of Iowa, 105.10)
