May 5, 2026 - Parks & Recreation Minutes
Walford Park and Recreation Minutes
Regular MeetingTuesday May 5, 2026
Metting called to order at 7:01 pm. Hahn, Butz, Horak, Perkins present. Miner absent,
Motion to approve minutes of April 7,2026 minutes Parks board meeting by Butz, seconded by Horak. Approved unanimously.
As we had several citizens, we heard from them first. They were there to request a second Pickle Ball court. It was suggested that it be placed where current sand volleyball pit is now. Citizens would prefer to have cement with texture like most tennis courts. A pedestrian access gate, so it would be difficult to get bikes on the courts, was also suggested. Would also like a bench inside, on the west side of the courts or in the middle. They would not want lighting as the neighbors would not like pickle ball being played after dark.
There is a line item in the budget for next fiscal year, that starts July 1, 2026 for 60K that we could use to do this proposed item. We will need bids, 3 would be preferred. Horak moved to approve for next fiscal year. Seconded by Perkins. Approved unanimously.
Concession stand does not have running water at the present moment.
The second half of above line item is to build a new concession stand with restrooms. A cinderblock building would be preferable. It would be 5-10k for sewer and electrical lines to be run. City engineer will be asked to look into this, once it is determined where the stand would like to be placed. Hahn will contact Shive Hattery for an estimate for building
Port-o-potty’s have been placed at park and baseball area. Ones for the upcoming garage sale Saturday will be brought in on Friday.
All the summer ball teams coaches positions have been filled. Practice schedules have been set up. A link has been set up with the diamond schedule, also help with weather related items. An email will be sent to P&R of the schedules.
Lilly has been a great addition/hire to the City.
Concession managers are in need of a dumpster key. Hahn will provide for the ball season.
Miner sent Lilly a list of equipment needed and a contact for where to order said items.
Profanity found on the playground equipment has been dealt with. Basketball stand base has been filled in with dirt. Bauer will be ordering a cement truck to fix bench pad at Knapp Creek park. While the truck is here, cement will be poured under the bleachers at the ball park. Cost will be @ $2200.
Perkins motioned that 3/4” thick plywood be placed inside ceiling dugouts to cover nail tips with a cost of $1400. Horak seconded. Approved unanimously. Dugouts will also have the facia replaced, with PVC, so it will not rot.
Perkins made a motion to approve the quote for 6 2” rubber mats to be placed under the big swings at the city park. seconded by Horak. Approved unanimously.
Was requested that we put signs on the diamond gates stating “No Dogs Allowed”.
Was discussed that next year, a new wind break for the pickle ball courts will be needed.
