Walford’s roots date back to 1884, when the community was first established—then known as Terry—along the expanding Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad. Just a few years later, the town was renamed Walford to avoid confusion with another Iowa community. This strong railroad heritage helped shape the town’s early growth and laid the foundation for the close-knit community that exists today.
The people of Walford reflect a strong, family-oriented community. The median age of residents is around 37–38 years, with a healthy mix of young families, working professionals, and retirees.
