Walford Park and Recreation Minutes

Special Meeting                                                                                                Tuesday February 24, 2026

Meeting called to order at 6:01pm.  Hahn, Perkins, Butz, Miner, Horak present.

Motion by Perkins, seconded by Butz to elect Rachel Hahn as Chairperson of Parks Board.  Motion carried unanimous.

Patrick Miner already held seat of Secretary of Parks Board and remains so.

Discussion of spending process

Budget as determined by Council was viewed.  

Reminders - only council can approve a contract.

Discussions included payment timing, procedures, fiscal year milestones, approval of expenditures.

Discussion regarding Spring Sports Programming

Discussion included umpire recruitment including approaching of PHS contacts/

Motion by Perkins to establish a $50 per game rate for non-certified umpires, $75 per game for certified umpires, seconded by Butz.  Motion carried unanimous.

Continued discussion included structure of Iowa Valley League, upcoming meetings and milestone dates for rosters and scheduling.  Monday March 23 is next IVL pre-season meeting in Newhall.  April 13 is target date for team counts for IVL teams and May 1 is target roster finalization.

Discussion regarding P&R coordinator position.

Position is posted, and application receipt ongoing.  Opportunities for integrating Coordinator into P&R activities were discussed.

Motion to adjourn by Miner, seconded by Horak.  Meeting adjourned at 7:08 pm.
