Youth Sports
Discussion included:
Changing lock combinations can and should occur immediately now that the town ball season is over.
Recommendation from Miner to consider, prior to 2027, no ball diamond rentals on either diamond during our Walford town team seasons.
Generally successful seasons for our teams.
Possibility of fall flag football collaboration with Swisher. Coordinator to investigate feasibility.
Action regarding concrete pads for bleachers and benches tabled until August pending clarification of line items in quotes that appear to be outside or mislabeled per original scope of plans.
Pickle Ball discussion included review of single quote with several more quotes pending with multiple vendors. Several items were discussed regarding composition of surface, surrounding fencing, and other options.
Shive Hattery - initial proposal received but not in time to review during July meeting.
Equipment/Grounds/Maintenance
• Paint on swings at City Park was noted as a very nice improvement
• Fireworks remnants reported along the walking trail with concern for pets and children. Parks Board would like to know if cleanup can be improved, either by fireworks vendor or city maintenance staff following fireworks show. Historical precedent did include mowing and bagging area around the launch site, Board is not sure if this happened following June's show.
• Knapp Creek park equipment rubberized surface on stairs and platforms is peeling - Board would like to ask city maintenance staff to investigate options for resurfacing.
• Small dugout and small storage shed has bird's nest inside that Board asks maintenance staff to remove.
• Facia on front of small diamond dugout roof is missing, may not have ever been there.
• Backstop at city park ball diamond area and backstop at small diamond have fencing that is curling and pulled away from posts/pipe. Board requests maintenance staff re-wire fencing back to post to prevent balls from escaping backstop enclosure during gameplay
• Board acknowledges the placement of the mats under the swing set. Placement appears to be inconsistent with expectations of mats being flush with the surface of the ground and may require additional grading, tamping, and fitting. Board is unsure if the current state is the final state or if more work is planned to properly fit the mats.
Motion to adjourn by Horak, seconded by Miner. Approved unanimous. Meeting adjourned at 8:48 pm.
